Sandpiper Juniors History
in 1931, many South Bay Area families and individuals were stricken by the Great Depression. The Sandpipers organization was founded by a group of women interested in making a difference. They provided confidential assistance to those with temporary financial difficulties, dedicating their time to help feed and clothe desperate members of the community. (www.sandpipers.org)
Sandpiper Juniors was formed in 1961 to give high school aged daughters and granddaughters of Sandpipers members living throughout the South Bay Area a chance to make that same difference. In 1986, the organization was opened to any high school aged girl from the South Bay Area committed to supporting their community.
Sandpiper Juniors operates under the auspices of Sandpipers. The primary purpose of the Sandpiper Juniors organization remains today, to encourage young high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors from the South Bay Area to better their community and the lives of others less fortunate and to assist our parent organization, Sandpipers, in meeting their goals.
